Penetrant Testing Equipment

Penetrant testing reveals surface-breaking cracks, porosity and laps in cast, forged and machined parts, and is one of the most widely used non-destructive testing methods. Fluorescent (FPI) and visible-dye (DPI) processes are a standard quality step across the aerospace, defence and automotive supply chain.

NEXSEN covers the whole process: UV-A inspection booths, penetrant benches, dip lines, spray guns and dry-developer applicators. Each system is engineered around part geometry, production rate and standards such as ASTM E1417 and AMS 2644.

Frequently asked questions

What is penetrant testing?

Penetrant testing (PT) reveals surface-breaking cracks and porosity by drawing a coloured or fluorescent liquid into the flaw by capillary action and then using a developer to make it visible.

What is the difference between FPI and DPI?

Fluorescent penetrant is inspected under UV-A light and shows finer indications; it is preferred in aerospace and defence. Visible-dye penetrant is inspected in white light and is practical on site and in general fabrication.

Booth, bench or line — which do I need?

A bench or booth suits low volumes and varied parts. In series production, dip lines that automate cleaning, penetrant, rinse, drying and developer steps save time and consumables.
