In plants producing pipe, bar, tube and plate, online (in-line) ultrasonic inspection systems check every product at production speed and reject faulty ones. Their reliability depends on regular dynamic calibration and verification: proof that every channel sees the artificial flaws in the reference standard at the right level and position, and that sorting and marking work correctly.

Scope
- Dynamic calibration with a reference standard: running a standard with artificial flaws (notches, holes, flat-bottom holes) per the product standard or customer specification at system speed; setting sensitivity and gates for every channel
- Channel and probe checks: probe condition, water coupling quality, channel gains and balance between channels
- Repeatability: verifying signal stability with repeated passes of the reference standard
- Coverage and position: length and circumferential coverage, untested ends, encoder and position accuracy
- Thickness and dimension measurement: verifying wall thickness and diameter channels against references where fitted
- Sorting and marking: checking paint marking, alarms and sorting outputs act on the right product and position
- Reporting: results per channel, the reference standard used and conformity assessment
Standards
Depending on your product and customer: the ISO 10893 series, API 5L / API 5CT, ASTM E213, ASTM E273 and similar product and testing standards, plus customer specifications. The applicable standard is agreed with you.
